Reflexology is a holistic treatment working the mind, body and spirit together. It is a therapy
used on the feet although where this is not possible the hands can be used instead. The
therapist uses special manipulations with differing degrees of pressure to provide both physical
and emotional wellbeing. The treatment is thought to work on the principle that the feet have reflex zones which correspond to different parts of the body through energy pathways. When pressure
is applied to certain areas the pathway is stimulated. It is a method for activating the healing
powers of the body.

Benefits of Reflexology:

Aids relaxation: it is an antidote to stress, it helps to balance emotions, inducing a state of calm
  leaving the body feeling revitalized
Balances energy: reflexology can help unblock congested energy pathways restoring balance
and improving physical and emotional wellbeing
Detoxifies the body: it is believed to improve the function of the lymphatic system removing toxins
  and waste build up
Provides pain relief: reflexology is known to stimulate the body to produce endorphins, the body’s
  own painkiller
Increases circulation: through relaxing the whole body its blood supply can flow more easily
Stimulates the nervous system: nerve endings are stimulated through reflexology
Prevents problems occurring: reflexology can alleviate stress and help boost the immune
  system.

Reflexology is a non-invasive complementary therapy which should only be given by a suitably qualified reflexologist. Regular reflexology treatments and changes in lifestyle and diet may help to prevent problems.
